Drawings of Oceanic canoes

A magnificent collection of drawings can be found at two websites:
 http://xoomer.virgilio.it/cherini/OCE1/index.html
And:  http://www.cherini.eu/etnografia/Oceania2/index.html

Perhaps someone who reads Italian could tell us who drew them.

Comments

  1. All these drawings seem to be from the same hand, and i think, allthough my italian is not very good, that Aldo Cherini, one of the two webmasters, made them all. There are also some marvellous drawings of ocanian craft at the beginning of this album http://www.cherini.eu/etnografia/PV/index.html, which don´t figure in Oceania vol.1 or two.

  2. I wish this set of drawings were published...
That second picture: so the 'nesians (not clear if it is poly or micro) did junk sails too - on shunting craft no less! There really is nothing new...

  3. The original drawing is titled "Papua New Guinea North east coast. Region of Wanimo. That would be nether poly-, nor micro-, but melanesia.

  8. Hi,

Recently I came across some great articles on your site. The other day, I was discussing (http://outriggersailingcanoes.blogspot.in/2012/03/drawings-of-oceanic-canoes.html ) with my colleagues and they suggested I submit an article of my own. Your site is just perfect for what I have written! Would it be ok to submit the article? It is free of charge, of course!

Let me know what you think
