Karl Caswell

Karl Caswell in British Columbia, Canada is building a 150% T2.  That works out to about twenty seven feet (8.1M).  It's not just a stretch as several builders have done but 150% in all three dimensions.  It weighs about 100 pounds at this stage.

  1. I'd hate to hoist it on a roof rack.

  2. Haha would need a pretty long car for that to work...

  3. She / he will be formidable. Wonder if the planking, iako length, sail area, are 150% too! Please keep us posted and good luck!

  4. Do we know what the design weight and displacement are?

  5. Any update on this project? I'm really interested to see how it handles.

  6. How does this affect the T2's displacement? I recall that being a complaint of Chris Grill's, and honestly, the only reason I'm not considering building a T2 is its lack of displacement.

    1. Chris Grill's canoe was only stretched in length. Karl's 3D scaling will result in more than double the carrying capacity of the standard T2.

    2. I'm touched that people remember my 22' proa. What a boat, still going like a rocket after nearly a decade afloat in the Caribbean. I did actually multiply the offsets by 1.3 to increase the displacement which was helpful but doubtless cut into the top speed.
Caswell's 27 footer is going to be a beast!
I'm now building a 60' schooner-rigged shunter in Upstate NY, looking for help and eventual crew. I can pay modestly. Contact me! Yes I said 60', and the main hull form will be essentially a T2, because it worked so well for me before. Something to look forward to!
Regards to Mr. Dierking - T2 changed my life.
