Visit to the Southern Outer Islands of Pohnpei

Takuya Nagaoka recently visited some of the southern islands near Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia.  Thankfully he took some great canoe photos.  Above you can see the very best way to store an outrigger canoe or any boat for that matter.  Out of the sun and rain, and above the ground for good ventilation.  This photo was taken on Kapingamarangi, one of the Polynesian settled islands in Micronesia.

A Pohnpeian style sailing canoe at Sapwuahfik.  Note the small shark in the canoe.

Polynesian Va'a Motu Project

Visit the Facebook page for the story of this va'a motu project.  This is not my design and it is considerably bigger.   There are several changes from the traditional including the latest wave piercing ama bow.  I think it was built on the island of Fakarava in the Tuamotu group of French Polynesia.

This last photo would make a good desktop background.
